BOX BEAMS
Origin Millworks has supplied over 145 individual hand hewn box beams and solid beams for this home, each with our proprietary hewn texture and saddle tan patina. To ensure a truly authentic look without glue-ups, it was important to us to produce the package out of single pieces, despite some sides of the beams calling for up to 30 inches wide pieces.
To ensure stability at this size, our artisans specialty selected the highest-quality spruce and fir timber, utilizing controlled kiln-drying techniques and rigorous grading. The result: zero movement, tight seams, and flawless structural appearance across beams that span entire rooms.
Timber-Framed Appearance
We collaborated closely with the builder, walking the home room-by-room to map out each beam’s placement, dimension, and aesthetic purpose. The goal was to create an authentic timber-framed look at dramatic scale.
In total, the home features over 92 individual box beams and 53 solid cut timbers, without a single glue up for width.
As with all of our box-beam packages, every piece was individually cut to it's proper width and length, then individually tagged and paired with a detailed install key. This ensures the building team can simply follow the layout to locate each piece for an efficient installation despite the immense scope.
Interior Barnwood Paneling
Complementing the hewn timber framed beams, the interior paneling was milled into ½-inch planks in random 3, 5, and 7 inch widths before a custom barnwood patina was applied. This created a warm, weathered backdrop that pairs naturally with the aesthetic of the home.
