Clear White Cedar - HINOKI COLLECTION

All products in the Hinoki collection are made from sustainably sourced White Cedar, also known as Hinoki Cedar.

The story of Hinoki Cedar has been told through petrified seeds in the fossil records, dating back millions of years. Japan was once connected to modern day Oregon and forests of Hinoki grew tall in this region. When the continents eventually separated, the majority of these trees went with it. However, the divide left behind pockets of the ancient timber in Southern Oregon.

Fast forward to 607 AD, the Horyu-ji Temple was built in Japan out of Hinoki cedar, which has held as the longest standing original wood structure.

Today, this rare wood is prized for it's density, longevity, pleasant aroma. Origin Millworks has access to small local forests of White Cedar, allowing us to offer this wood in small custom quantities. The naturally white coloration creates a blank canvas for a wide variety of consistent modern aesthetics featured below.
